Relief and agriculture of Armenia:

Armenia is one of the ex-Soviet Union countries and obtained the independency at 21 December 1991. It has a mountainous relief, with the medium elevation over 1.800 m height. Between these high mountains (which have the highest peak in Aragats Lerr Peak of 4.090 m height) are deep valleys and just a small part is good for agriculture, locals cultivating potatoes, cereals, tobacco, vegetables, fruits and others.

Climate and waters:

The climate is continental with warm summers (a media between 23 and 27º C) and cold and long winters (a media between -2 and 2º C). The rainfall varies according to the elevation and season and sometimes it is even over 1.200 – 1.500 mm every year. (Find more journeys on blog.worldlifetimejourneys.com) The most important rivers are Aras, Tigris and Euphrates, but more important are the lakes like Sevan Lake in the eastern part which is the largest one and has more than 80% of the standing water. Like its neighbor Turkey, it is also affected by earthquakes that brought many damages and deaths.

Resources, capital and Armenian population:

Unfortunately if the earthquakes are not enough for Armenians, they are in conflict for many years (after they obtained the independency) with Azerbaijan for a small territory, so these conflicts affected the economy and brought many crisis. But the country tries to come back with the help of its resources of gold, copper, zinc or aluminium, but also helped by its industries of engineering, alimentary and chemical. The capital and the largest city is Yerevan, one of the oldest cities in the world with more than 5.000 years old. The population is composed in majority by Armenians. Visit Armenia!
