Arges County

Relief, climate and rivers:

Arges County has a complex relief that starts with the Southern Carpathians (Făgăraş Mountains, Piatra Craiului Mountains, Iezer Papusa Mountains, Bucegi Mountains and Leaota Mountains) in the north part and continues in the central area with the Getic Sub Carpathians and the Getic Piedmont and in south with the Romanian Plain and its subdivisions of Pitesti Plain and Gavanu-Burdea Plain. The highest peak of the county and of Romania as well is in Fagaras Mountains and it’s Moldoveanu peak of 2.544 m height.

The climate varies greatly depending on elevation. If the temperatures are low and the rainfall is high in the north, in south is much warmer with frequent temperatures over 30° C during summers. (Find more journeys on blog.worldlifetimejourneys.com) The most important rivers with their tributaries are Arges and Dambovita but the lakes dominate the county, with a wide variety here. Among the largest are Vidraru, Pecineaga, Iezer, Capra (Goat), Rauzor Lakes and others.

Flora, fauna and tourist attractions from Arges County:

In Arges County are found both deciduous forests and conifer ones in the mountains. The fauna is diverse with many species of mammals and birds protected by law. So in order to protect the virgin forests and their wildlife, there were created a few natural reservations such as Piatra Craiului or Iezer Mountains Natural Reservations. Among the most important tourist attractions and objectives are the reservations noted above, Curtea de Arges Monastery, Dambovicioara Cave, the well-known scenic road Transfagarasan, Lake Vidraru, Arges Keys and even Pitesti City.
